Overview

The Master’s degree in Geophysics for Natural Risks and Resources has the main goal of educating professionals and researchers capable of approaching in a multi-disciplinary manner the theory and applications of physical methodologies for the exploration and characterization of the subsoil. This exploration can take place ad different spatial scales, from meters to tens and hundreds of kilometers, with aims spanning a large number of application and theoretical areas where the knowledge of soil and subsoil is crucial. Both computational and field oriented specializations are foreseen.

Programme structure

Common Path: Solid Earth Geophysics, Applied Geophysics, Electromagnetism, Basic Geology, Mathematical Physics for the Earth System, Digital Data Processing, Environmental and Engineering Geophysics, Exploration Seismology.*
Path 1: Numerical Methods, Management and Analysis of Physics Data, Laboratories of Computational Physics, Advanced Statistics, Statistical Mechanics, Machine Learning.
Path 2: Geophysics for Cultural Heritage, Applied Geodesy, Seismic Response of Built Structure, Geotechnics, Geothermics, Hydrology.

Career opportunities

Graduates work as Exploration Geophysicists or Applied and Environmental Geophysicist or as consultants in oil and gas, and renewable energy industries, renewable energy industries, civil engineering/constructions companies, insurance enterprises, either in public or private sectors. They can sit the examination to become professional geologists and they can also pursue a career as researchers, starting from a PhD in Earth Sciences.
