Overview
The degree programme aims for the recovery and transmission of the antiquity as a diachronic dimension of the present. It mainly focuses on the Greek-Latin culture, which is not only extraordinarily relevant but also closely and seamlessly tied to us. Besides, it aims at providing students with advanced knowledge of the Greek-Latin culture, especially of the literary and historical heritage, including its Nachleben. The degree programme offers educational activities on Greek and Latin literary texts and their background as well as activities concerning the study of historiographical sources and their methods. Furthermore, it provides thorough knowledge of the linguistic, philological, literary and historical disciplines of the classical world, including their technical and theoretical aspects. To complete the historical and cultural background and ensure a comprehensive frame of reference, other disciplines are also involved, such as ancient east languages (Semitic, Sanskrit and Arabic languages), archaeology, philosophy and law.
Career opportunities
The degree programme trains qualified graduates with expertise in linguistic, literary and documentary disciplines as well as in linguistics, philology, and proofreading. Graduates may work as experts in archives and libraries or as curators in museums. They may consider a career as researchers or technicians in antiquity, literary-philological, historical, philosophical, pedagogical, psychological sciences and legal studies.
Graduates can perform professional tasks both in public and private bodies operating in various fields such as culture, publishing and cultural information as well as in the national education system, also filling high-level positions. Graduates in Classical languages and literatures and ancient history may also consider a career as teachers in schools, upon obtaining their teaching qualification and successfully participating in calls for teaching, pursuant the current regulations.
