Overview
The Master’s Degree provides deep biomedical knowledge concerning the connections between the structure and function of biomolecules and biosystems operating at cell or tissue level, and of the organism in physiological and pathological conditions. Practical training in laboratory represents a relevant part of the programme.
Programme structure
1st Year: Pharmaceutical Biotechnology: Design and Analysis of Biopharmaceuticals; Proteomics and Bioinformatics; Laboratory Medicine Technologies and Molecular Diagnostics; Seminar; Cell and Organ Physiology and Medical Pathophysiology; Genetics and Epigenetics; Immunology
and General Pathology; Nanobiotechnology. Optional course units Advanced Biomedical Technologies; Advanced Technologies for Biomedical Data; Antibiotic Therapy: Discovery, Development and rationale Clinical Use; Biology of Ageing; Laboratory Activities.
2nd Year: Experimental Models in vivo and vitro; Pharmacology and Molecular Therapies; Stem Cell Biology and Molecular Biology of Development
A double degree in collaboration with the University of Ulm (Germany) is also available that includes a study path in “Molecular Medicine” (upon further selection procedure).
Career opportunities
Graduates work as heads of research laboratories and project coordinators related to biotechnologies applied to human beings, with emphasis on pharmaceutical products and vaccines, taking into account ethical, technical, and legal implications. They are able to assist doctors in the diagnosis and in the therapeutic phases implying the manipulation of cells, genes and other bio-systems.
