Overview
The degree in Molecular Biology is focused on understanding the molecular and biochemical aspects at the base of biological processes. The first year of the course includes all the basic teaching useful for a general introduction and comprehension of the biological world. The following two years cover functional, cellular and molecular aspects at the base of the organization of life. Although it is characterized by a strong molecular content, the degree in Molecular Biology maintains an integrated vision of the biological world at both the level of the cell and the organism.
Career opportunities
The degree in Molecular Biology constitutes the cultural foundation to continue the studies for a compatible master degree. Alternatively, the graduate could directly find employment dealing with analyses and management problems related to production and technological activities in laboratories in the public and private sectors, in particular in laboratories of the pharmaceutical sector, in the food and agro-industrial sector and in biotechnologies. Moreover, he/she will be able to operate in research laboratories and in bioinformatic services. The graduate, after taking the national exam, can also enroll in the Italian national register for the profession of Biologist (“Albo dei Biologi”), section B, with the title of Junior Biologist, to perform the associated activities.
